End of my First Semester at the Urban College of Boston

So, it’s the end of my first semester as the President of Urban College of Boston. I returned to the presidency after a two-year break. I took on the challenge of leading a college again, and I am now applying all that I learned not only in my former presidencies but also during my time at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) as an SVP.

The truth is that, after four intense months, I am a little tired. The first year of the presidency is always the most intense, I find. Between intro meetings, events, dinners, town halls, there is little time for self-care. I am also fighting a cold. It’s been a long semester! I am proud of what we accomplished as a team. Though I knew much about the College, I learned so much about the students, the staff, and the origins of the College, as well as its legacy of serving the most underprivileged and deserving learners in Boston. It was a fully packed four months!

I am looking forward to spending time with my immediate and extended family over the holiday break. I will also be taking a little time for myself. Yes, I’ll be heading to a warm destination for a solo trip where I hope to recharge and rejuvenate! I have a list of books, podcasts, movies, and articles I have lined up to enjoy during my time away. I plan on coming back ready to tackle the spring semester and the rest of the fiscal year.

I am curious about the ways that leaders and others disconnect and recharge. Don’t hesitate to share your routine below. We can all learn from each other.
